As usual, my lazy ass didn’t write anything on tumblr for probably three weeks, so now I have to write a long winded post to catch up. Two major things on my mind today, with a few other random things at the end.
First of all, I would be remiss not to mention my dear home state of Vermont, who got royally fucked by that whore Irene. As some of you may know, it’s pretty messy there, as of this morning 13 towns were still unreachable by road (That’s what I heard on CNN anyway), and supplies are having to be air dropped into towns. Now, everyone in Vermont is going to be ok, they’ll work hard to fix everything. But one thing that’s lingering at the back of my mind is that I feel like the people in Vermont were kind of passed over when everyone was figuring out who was in the most trouble. I’m certainly not trying to discount anything that happened anywhere else, because I’m aware that it was all very bad, but I feel like Vermont wasn’t given a thought. Obviously it’s done now, and things will be done to fix everything, but I feel like more stuff could have happened before the storm. Maybe I’m just not looking at it objectively because I’m from there?
Next on the list is Jack White’s collaboration with the Insane Clown Posse and how everyone has their knickers in a twist over it. The important thing for people to understand is that Jack White’s gonna do what Jack White wants to do. I absolutely adore Jack White, he could fart into a microphone and I would listen to it. Do I like ICP? Not in the least. Do I think that JW can do whatever the fuck he wants, including collaborate with a band that I don’t like that is from the same city that he is? Yes I do, and I also don’t think his ability and willingness to do that would change based on my opinions. People who are saying that they’ve lost respect for Jack White never understood what Jack White is about. Still will not buy the single though. But the Raconteurs play a show in two weeks. Hoooooooooly shit.
Speaking of Jack, I had the pleasure of visiting Third Man Records in Nashville. It was wondrous and I dropped 100 bucks on vinyl. Could have dropped far more.
Also, I’m on my way back to school in Denver, this means that my life may actually become more interesting, as I’ve already got quite a few concerts I may be able to talk about, I might actually start using Tumblr… imagine that.
Until next time.

Can we talk about all the god damn stages collapsing all over the planet this summer? Another one dropped at Pukkelpop in Belgium today during the Smith Western’s set. That’s like, five this summer. Shouldn’t that be like…fixed? Maybe?
Fucking amazing movie. Loved it so much.

So Jeff Mangum was awesome in spite of the fact that the two opening bands were not at all awesome. I got to meet him after the show and he signed my poster, which was dope. He seemed to be a pretty cool and normal guy for someone who fell off the face of the earth for ten years.
Listening to Jeff Mangum (and the fucking terrible bands before him) made me realize how important lyrics are in music. There are a lot of really good lyricists in music, but there are far more shitty ones that are way more popular. Lyricists like Jeff Mangum, Colin Meloy, Isaac Brock, Jack White, Damon Albarn, and of course Neil Peart who I have to mention because Rush is fucking amazing, are all (perhaps except Mangum) writing new music. Yet when you turn on the radio you hear such garbage as Taylor Swift, The Black Eyed Peas, Taio Cruz, and other fucking terrible excuses for performing artists. Seriously what the fuck’s with that? For fuck’s sake does anyone listen to actual music? Don’t answer that, I know people do. What you should answer is if I missed any good lyricist or if you don’t agree with me (ha!). Seriously though, who else do you feel is a good lyricist? and maybe you can tell me why as well? If you feel like it.
So, this is my longest post ever, and I hope to actually start writing more. Thanks for reading it if you made it this far. If you didn’t make it this far, then you’re a dick. Seriously, it’s like 200 words tops.

So I went to the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend, and had an awesome time. It was way better than Bonnaroo, and everyone seemed to really be enjoying themselves. I was lucky enough to see a ton of great acts as well as various musicians walking the grounds of Fort Adams, including basically everyone in the Decemberists, Pete Seeger, and some awesome stuff.
Even cooler than all of that was meeting Pokey Lafarge and the South City Three at my motel 6 the night before the festival started, buying some vinyl out of their van, and getting them to sign it. It was ridiculous.

“I think it’s funny that people are comparing Jack White to god. I mean, he’s good and all, but he’s no Jack White.”
